More Than Just Products: Making of a Successful Business

Lago, Venice - Tuesday, June 14th

During this trip, we visited many leading furniture and lighting manufacturers. It was great walking through beautiful showrooms and hearing stories behind successful product. However, what stood out for me the most was our visit to the Lago office in Venice.


 
At Lago we did not focus extensively on their products. Instead, we took a tour inside their manufacturing facility and learned about different strategies they implemented to improve product efficiency, product quality, and ways consumers shop for products. It was interesting to learn about the operation of a company through different lens, as being in the industrial design field can restrict us to a product-oriented thinking. 



In today’s competitive market, having merely a well-designed product is not enough; we have to design business and production strategies as well. In industries such as furniture and lighting, it is especially difficult for young companies to set feet and grow within the market because the amount of products and competition within the market is overwhelming. An innovative marketing strategy will set the product apart from a sea of otherwise similar products.
