Kartell & Collaborations

Kartell, Milan - Wednesday June 8th 2011

The Kartell Company museum is organized in such a way that the visitor follows the chronological order of the company’s major product releases. It is very evident that Kartell’s original motive was to replace household products made of glass and other materials with plastic.

Since plastic is so versatile, it has allowed the company to create an extremely diverse product line. At first they produced very practical products such as buckets, flyswatters and sieves for household use, as well as beakers and test tube accessories for laboratory use. Theses were all very attainable, iconic everyday items. Though Kartell is still a leader in laboratory equipment, their product line for the home has changed dramatically over the years through collaboration with well-known designers such as Phillipe Stark and Patricia Urquiola. Though these new products are beautiful, they are rarely enjoyed by everyday people due to the high prices.
