Bisazza: Renovation of cultural traditions

Bisazza Showroom, Venice - Tuesday, June 14th 2011

Marco Bettiol describes Italian design as one that is leveraged on manufacturing excellence with a focus on aesthetics. By concentrating their efforts on fabricating luxury products with high craft and precision, Bisazza continues to be the world-leading manufacturer of glass mosaic products.

Headed by Carlo Dal Bianco, Bisazza uses unique computer generated process to create highly detailed mosaics and constructs them with polymer-engineered slabs. With this method, Bisazza is able to rediscover and preserve the Venetian mosaic tradition in a modern and effective way.

Inspired by the Napoleon period, Bisazza is able to breathe new life to old artisan practices. This includes drawing cultural references from neoclassical sculptures, friezes, and antique fabrics. With the intention of embellishing the home interior, 1 cm by 1 cm tiles are arranged to create the mosaics of relative large dimensions. For example, the area of the corinzio mosaic (below) is about 2.5m by 1.5m.

With the successes of Bisazza, local culture is promoted; the niche created by Bisazza promotes Italy design and protects jobs at home.
