A Glimpse into the mind of David Palterer

ISIA (Instito Superiore per la Industrie Artistiche), Florence - Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Presentation by David Palterer

On June 2nd we attended a lecture by architect/designer, David Palterer. He showed us a presentation about a number of the products he designed. This blog entry shows some of my favourite products with a description of why they are special. I also have a few quotes from David Palterer which I thought were great. N.D. The quotes might be paraphrased.

In reference to adding details to objects "Don't use anything casually."
"The human being is a very strange machine."
"The centre of design is people."
"To cheat is very easy, even ourselves."
"We shouldn't focus on the sustainability of energy, but on how and why we are using energy. We can then create less and use less. It is about sustainable psychology, changing the way you think."

  1. Wasn't he such an interesting mind? I also got some quotes from his lecture.

"Be involved culturally and you can get new eyes."
"Put two different things together to create a new identity."
    "Work with archetypes."
"Every generation has characteristic heritage objects."
    "Design is not an invention."
"Blue glass is the hardest to work with."
"You cannot create something and the kill it solely on speculation."
"Everything has the capacity for communication."

    And:

"I have a problem with my own existence."
